About Safelight Studio

Safelight Studio is a photography practice built on intention, craft. and respect for the photographic process.

My journey began with a modern DSLR, like many photographers today. Over time. however, I found myself wanting to slow down- to move beyond speed and convenience and reconnect with the fundamentals of image-making. That search led me into the darkroom, and eventually to dry plate photography.

The name Safelight Studio reflects that turning point. A safelight represents a space where photography becomes deliberate again-where every step matters, from preparation to exposure to development. Working under its glow taught me patience, precision, and a deeper understanding of light, chemistry and time.

Dry plate photography, an early photographic process dating back to the 19th century, has reshaped how I see and create images. It's not just about pressing a button, but about intention, understanding, and respect for the image-principles that have existed since the very first photograph. This process has made me a stronger photographer across all formats, whether I/m working with a DSLR, mirrorless camera, or a camera over 100 years old, shooting portraits, landscapes, wildlife or sports.

Safelight Studio exists to create photographs with meaning-images that value process as much as the final result. Every photograph is approached with care. curiosity, and a deep appreciation for the history and craft of photography.
